Pulse jet Engine
A jet engine that contains only ONE moving part! It achieves continuous combustion through a pulsing movement of hot gases, hence the name.
I built one of these to mount on a RC plane. Unfortunately, it ran way too hot and would melt or burn any chassis we could make on campus.

Essentially a Tube
The beauty of the design lies in the simplicity. The V1 buzz bombs used the same kind of engines.
The Lonely Moving part
Here lies the sole moving part in this assembly. It’s a standard reed valve from a Yamaha RX 100 motorcycle.
Too Hot
The gasket between the valve and the combustion chamber caught fire. The video below shows the moment it caught on fire. Watch out for undergrad-me in shorts.
The gasket catches fire at the end of the video. Apologies for the low resolution; a function of the careless times in my undergrad years.
